Panasonic Toughbook Drives Efficiency at Honda Australia

Fully-rugged Toughbook CF-19 satisfies requirements for durability and reliable performance in Honda car workshops Australia-wide.

Honda Australia has enhanced productivity and improved customer service by deploying 120 Panasonic Fully Rugged Toughbook CF-19 MKIIIs throughout its franchised Honda car dealerships.

The Toughbooks are used by car dealers as well as the company’s Technical Training department to perform vehicle ‘health checks’ and diagnosis in conjunction with Honda’s Modular Vehicle Communications Interface (MVCI) diagnostic system. This powerful combination has delivered significant productivity benefits that are then passed on to the customer.

Honda needed a rugged mobile computing solution that could withstand a ‘real-world’ technical workshop environment.

Sam Taranto, Technical Assistant Manager – Honda Australia, enthused that Honda’s dealers and customers had both reaped the benefits of the deployment and that overall productivity at Honda dealerships had increased with faster diagnosis and better customer service.

“Carrying out vehicle software upgrades with our old system was taking around fifteen minutes. When our new system is paired with the Toughbook, our technicians can get it done in around two minutes. Diagnostics and troubleshooting are also around 50% faster, so our customers spend less time waiting at service centres, and dealers can get vehicles back on the road with minimal delay,” he explained.

Enhancements in screen brightness, storage space and improved security make the Toughbook CF-19 a highly effective rugged field unit. With a magnesium alloy frame and specialised shock-absorbent damper encasing the hard drive, the unit can withstand knocks, heavy vibrations and sharp temperature fluctuations, as well as survive falls from up to 1.8 metres.
