On the verge of the opening of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Panasonic is proud to continue its 28-year association as an Official Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Audio and Visual Equipment category. Join us in a trip down memory lane as we look back to the London 2012 Olympic Games. Recognised as the “Social Olympics” after fans shared their passion for the Olympics across social media in addition to regular TV broadcasting. London 2012 was also the first Olympic Games to deliver live 3D broadcasts so more people could experience the thrill of being part of the action.

Professional Display

At London 2012 Olympic Games, Panasonic supplied a 45 screens with a total surface area of 1,730m2, the largest-ever LED delivery. The athletes’ performances, displayed vividly at competition venues and live sites, generated much excited cheering from the audience.

Security Solutions

Panasonic supplied a total of 2,500 security cameras across all venues. By increasing security and maintaining public order in venues and surrounding areas filled with spectators and athletes, we fulfilled the Olympic credo of promoting peace.

Broadcasting Equipment

At the London 2012, groundbreaking high-definition video recording was made possible by Panasonic’s latest Full HD format, the AVC-Intra. In addition, Panasonic supplied a multitude of broadcasting equipment including the P2HD series. We also supported the Olympics’ first 3D live broadcast using the latest 3D equipment and technology.

Professional Projector

Panasonic supplied 26 DLP projectors to the venues of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. With this model we achieved quality improvements, such as the world’s smallest and leanest size, halving the power consumption and noise during operation, and lowering running costs by doubling the life expectancy of the projector lamp. With its brightness measuring 20,000 lumens, these projectors lit up vivid visuals across the venue.

HD Visual Communication System

Panasonic supplied the HD visual communication system enabling rapid exchanges between large distances, contributing to the smooth operation of the Games. Competition footage was also directly transmitted to the road cycling venue, highlighting Panasonic’s innovative new solution.

103-inch Plasma Display

Our plasma displays exhibited exquisite visual reproduction capabilities in indoor venues with strong lighting. The compact screens took up little space and could be installed in smaller Olympic venues. Panasonic’s strength lay in our ability to suggest optimal video solutions to suit the venue.
