Panasonic has had a proud 28-year history as an Official Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Audio and Visual Equipment category. Today we flash back to the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games. As the 20th Olympic Winter Games, Torino represented a milestone in Olympic history. Torino 2006 was broadcast in 200 countries and shared the passion of the great athletes all over the world.

At the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games, in addition to DVCPRO 50, the DVCPRO HD was used as the official video recording format to record high-definition video. In addition, Panasonic supplied equipment for the sixth consecutive Games and introduced the P2HD, the industry’s first broadcasting video camera to employ semiconductor memory, to the host station and the IBC (International Broadcast Centre).

Panasonic supplied an Olympic record of 29 screens to the Torino 2006 venues. In the main stadium in particular, we set up four screens to convey various emotional scenes including the Opening Ceremony.

RAMSA Professional Audio System

Panasonic provided sound systems to 14 Olympic venues including the main stadium, “Stadio Olimpico di Torino.” The sound system conveyed the very best of the fierce competition and excitement to the athletes and spectators.
