The New Panasonic Smart VIERA Range

Panasonic Smart Viera Range Defines the Best in TV Technology

Panasonic Australia unveils a new range of Smart Viera TVs offering the very best in TV technology.  The new range sees improvements to five key elements: picture quality, easy operation, networking, ecological features and design. The Smart Viera range includes 10 new Plasma and 13 LED LCD models.

Key features and technologies for 2012

Picture quality

This year’s range offers the very best in image quality in both 2D and 3D. Panasonic’s top-of-the range Neo Plasma TVs offer fast motion picture response with a 2500Hz Focussed Field Drive[i], ideal for viewing fast action and sports, as well as industry-leading black levels. The flagship VT50 Series offers Infinite Black Ultra, the ultimate in black rendering, as well outstanding motion picture processing. Furthermore, the Plasma picture is up to 30 percent brighter than that of the 2011 range, with the same power consumption.  The IPS LED LCD TVs have outstanding viewing angles, high contrast and fast response times achieved by improved panel performance and advanced backlight control.

Easy operation

For greater convenience and easy operation, a Smartphone or tablet device can be used as a TV remote control with the Smart Viera Remote App Version 2.0.  Viewers will also be able to “tap and flick” content such as movies, images and music stored on their Smartphone or tablet directly to their VieraTV.[ii]

All Viera TVs are supplied with a user friendly, robust remote control. The high-end Viera VT50 and WT50 Series include a cutting-edge VIERA Touch Pad Controller, which lets you easily browse the web and other applications with the flick of your thumb. These models also feature multi-tasking functionality, making it possible to open several web pages simultaneously on your TV.

Networking

Building on Panasonic’s cloud-based architecture, Viera Connect™ delivers an almost infinite number of apps and is available on even more models in the range[iii]. New content providers include BigPond Movies, which offers a library of 4,000 titles on demand. Quickflix has also been added, offering unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows direct to your TV.[iv] These join the already popular social networking sites as well as ABC iView, Yahoo!7’s PLUS7; video and music apps such as Vimeo and Red Karaoke, MLB.TV sports, and a range of interactive games, news and weather apps.

This year sees the introduction of a web browser as well as a social networking TV feature, which allows keen social networkers to use Facebook and Twitter while watching TV. Users can input text directly to their screen using an iPad, Smartphone, optional keyboard or Viera’s new easy-to-use Touch Pad Controller. Skype functionality has also been improved with the ‘Split Screen’ feature, allowing viewers to simultaneously watch TV while video calling family or friends.

Smart Viera gives you full, easy access to your photos, videos and more – no matter where they are stored. Thanks to DLNA capability and Wi-Fi[v], you can communicate with other devices around the home and wirelessly stream multimedia to your TV. HDMI and USB terminals allow the TVs to be connected to other High Definition components or an external hard disk storage device.

Eco

The 2012 range of Viera Plasma and LCD TVs offers eco-conscious design. The LED LCD TVs achieve up to 25 percent energy savings when compared to equivalent 2011 models.  Eco Mode on both the new Plasma and LCD TVs adjusts screen brightness to reduce power consumption and turns the power off when there is no activity or signal. Viera Plasma completely eliminates the use of harmful substances, such as lead and mercury.

Design

Combining form and function, the design of this year’s Viera TVs is Panasonic’s best yet.  This year’s Viera LED LCD line-up has a stylish and eye-catching metal design concept; this is further enhanced on the WT50 Series with a crescent-shaped stand. The design of this year’s Viera Plasma range is clean and simple, with most models incorporating a glass design for an elegant theme.
