The installation featured one hundred forty 55-inch screens arranged into 7 pillars that showcased Japan’s unique view of the world and the beauty of its nature, by combining the traditional culture of Japan with state-of-the-art Panasonic technologies drawn from our imaging, audio, lighting and home appliance businesses.

“KUKAN” – The Invention of Space incorporated 7 towering pillars to form a spatial installation where images met sound to create a one-of-a-kind experience in a unique space to fuel the imaginations of its visitors. The 7 pillars took on a completely different expression depending on the angle from which they were viewed and brought to life an unknown, unexplored environment.
Mr. Shuichi Furumi (President of SD Associates, Inc.) who was in charge of the total design and the overall production said, “We created an unknown space with imagery. I think it’s the first of its kind in the world. People were fixated by it, looked from pillar to pillar, meandered through the pillars, sat down, and even laid down face up to gaze at it. We heard many people say, ‘Bravissimo!’ (Excellent!) with excitement. We couldn’t have asked for a better award. Thank you all.”
