The Technics DMC DJ World Championships Goes Online

The Technics DMC World DJ Championships started in 1985. It is a global competition that pits the world’s best DJs against one another, starting at a national level, before culminating in a final where the best artists from all over the world battle it out for the 1st place crown on an international stage.

Since the reintroduction of the Technics brand in Australia late last year, we are proud to be able to once again support local Australian DJs in their quest for a share of the global spotlight at the World Championship finals in November.

Whoever is crowned National Australian DMC DJ champion will receive a huge prize kit worth over $10,000, including two Technics SL1210 MK7 turntables, Technics DJ Headphones, the coveted Australian DMC DJ Champion jacket, and of course, bragging rights for the next 12 months.

Grand Prize includes 2x Technics SL1210 MK7 Turntables and EAH-DJ1200 Headphones

COVID19 has turned the world on its head, with the DMC World DJ Championships no different. The cancellation of live events across the globe due to the pandemic has meant that in 2020 the DMC World DJ Championships is being held online for the first time in its 35 year history.

DMC have been quick to react, ensuring they find a 2020 World Champion by developing a unique online platform where any freestyle DJ anywhere in the world will have the opportunity to take part.

Competitors across Australia submitted their 2 minute video performance to the platform for consideration in the National Elimination round. Of these entries, the top 10 will battle it out in National Finals with an Australian DMC DJ Champion being announced on 25 October.

The Australian Champion then has the opportunity to participate in the World Elimination round with a new 2 minute video clip that will be judged by a selection of previous DMC DJ Champions.

If they are talented enough to get through the World Elimination stage, they progress onto the World Finals where they will face the ultimate test to prove they are the best turntablist in the world by submitting a gruelling 6 minute mix.

All rounds will be live-streamed via the Official DMC Australia website and their Facebook page. The event culminates on November 25, where the finalists’ submissions will be live streamed simultaneously around the world. DMC World Champion judges then have 5 days to deliberate and decide the 2020 DMC DJ World Champion on November 30.

Levelling the playing field by allowing artists all over the glove to submit a video means the competition for 2020 is sure to be fierce. The ability to practice their sets to submit the perfect mix will no doubt raise standards even higher and shine the spotlight on some of the freshest talent on Earth.

Technics are glad to be a part of such a passionate, creative community and we hope the winner of the Australian DMC DJ Championship can go all the way to become the World Champion!
