The G85’s 16-megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor sees the Low Pass Filter removed for even more highly detailed images, while the new Venus Engine suppresses the moiré patterns that can occur when repetitive details exceed the sensor resolution. What’s more, the Venus Engine reproduces vibrant, impressive colors for images such as clear skies by dividing the hue, saturation, and luminosity, and finely adjusting them separately. This fine-tuning also means you can choose the way the G85 processes the image from the sensor using the Photo Style menu to experiment with contrast, sharpness, saturation and noise reduction.

The versatile G85 offers serious video recording, making it a hybrid camera in the truest sense. It records smooth, high-resolution 4K and Full HD video with practical full-time AF to let you easily maintain focus on moving objects The G85 is also capable of real-time 4:2:2 8 bit video output to an external monitor/recorder via micro HDMI while simultaneously recording video to the SD card, and the 3.5mm microphone jack allows high quality audio recording with an external microphone.
