Today we are flashing back 1965 to revisit our irresistibly cute MC-1000 Vacuum Cleaner. This bold, modern product heralded in the era of plastic and became an instantly fashionable alternative to the clunky predecessors constructed from metal sheeting.
In addition to being the very first plastic-bodied vacuum cleaner, its unique front wheel gave it effortless maneuverability, making vacuuming less stressful than ever before.
The MC-1000 set a new record for vacuum cleaner production with an astonishing (for the time) 630,000 units rolling off the line and its popularity could not simply be attributed to the western world plastic-fantastic love affair. This marvelous machine even managed to become a Japanese household necessity, replacing a very traditional view that only dusters, brooms, and floor cloths were necessary cleaning tools.
Fantastic design! But I was expecting a link to the current generation of Panasonic Vacuums. I am also yet to see one in stores, are they still available?
Hi Rex, well pointed out. I’ve added to the article. You can find our current range here http://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/household/small-appliances/vacuum-cleaners.html.
