Dr. Dean Miller and his Adventure for Change team have been exploring the wilderness and bringing back stories of the animals and people that dwell in these remote locations with the help of Panasonic cameras and recorders. The latest adventure was an epic six-week voyage to the Great Barrier Reef to research and document the unique Dwarf Minke Whale encounters that happen there each year.
The team managed to spend more than 50 hours in contact with 139 of these magnificent creatures and the footage captured with the Lumix DMC-GH3 is nothing short of spellbinding. Watching ‘Expedition Eye to Eye’ it’s impossible not to feel how wondrous it must have been to have such close contact with the Dwarf Minke Whales. They are said to be one of the friendliest animals on Earth and they lived up to their reputation, actively seeking out human contact and staying with the scientists and filmmakers in prolonged interactions for up to 12 hours at a time!
This interaction is so unique it happens nowhere else, and scientists still don’t completely understand why this special phenomenon occurs at all but the Adventure for Change team are dedicated to collaborating with scientists and managers to ensure these curious whales are protected in Australian and International waters.
