Melbourne’s Remote Control Tourist campaign wins award

The Remote Control Tourist initiative that was launched in October by Tourism Victoria has been named the winner of IAB Australia’s Creative Showcase 8.3. This clever ‘virtual tourist’ campaign saw Panasonic AG-HCK10G HD POVCAMs fixed to helmets along with microphones, GPS and clever mobile streaming technology, so that the tourists could travel to interesting places and meet the people of Melbourne. To make things more exciting, the public got to decide what adventures these tourists would experience.

Mike Zeederberg, managing director of Zuni and Creative Showcase’s chair of judges, released a statement praising the current marketing trends of tight social media integration, user utility and branded content (or native advertising to use its latest name) that were all strongly represented in the IAB Australia’s Creative Showcase 8.3 entries.

“The live experience of being able to interact with a ’remote tourist’ whilst the campaign simultaneously built significant content assets using cool technology proved to be a winner with the judges,” Mike said.

At Panasonic, we are justifiably proud that our uncomplicated, low-cost ‘point-of-view’ cameras were used to create quality footage for this cool project. Check out the AG-HCK10G HD POVCAM and maybe you will start thinking about showing the world your point of view…
