Professional photographer and Lumix Ambassador shares tips on shooting with a Lumix GF1

Ken Duncan was recently in Fiji carrying out some photo workshops with Australia’s top Lumix salespeople as well as doing some product testing. While he was there he put together some tips on shooting with the Lumix GF1.

Here are a few of the shots that Ken took on the trip with his GF1:

Mondriki Island

Mondriki Island

This is the island where most of Tom Hanks movie, “Castaway” was filmed. I’m sure now with his very busy schedule he wishes he could be back on that island, as it truly is an idyllic paradise with plenty of coconuts. For this image, I used a very low angle and got down close to the water to capture the wave action which draws you into the shot. The only thing I had to be careful of was not to let my camera get wet. As great as the GF1 is, it’s not water-proof like its cousin, the FT2.

Swimming Pool, Mana Island Resort

Swimming Pool, Mana Island Resort

Sunrise is always a wonderful time to take photos, as most people are still in bed and reflections are always a great thing to look for. This particular morning I was rewarded with these beautiful reflections in the Resort pool as the sun began to rise. I didn’t have a tripod with me, so I just steadied the camera on a deck chair. Use whatever you have at hand to get the shot

Fisherman Casting, Mana

Fisherman Casting, Mana

Here we captured one of the local fishermen in traditional attire demonstrating how to use the casting net. The poor guy’s arms must have nearly fallen off, as we had him cast that net hundreds of times to try and get the position of the net just right. When taking a shot like this, it’s important to use speed priority so the net is not blurred. Again, I shot from a very low angle to get good reflections on the water.
