RAMSA Professional Audio System: all-Weather speakers turned up the heat in snowy Nagano.

With Panasonic technology set to play a major part in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, we are taking a trip down memory lane as an Official Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Audio and Visual Equipment category. Today we flash back to the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games. From this Olympic Winter Games, snowboard and women’s ice hockey became official events, and curling was reinstated.

Broadcasting Equipment

At the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games, Panasonic designed the International Broadcast Centre (IBC)’s broadcasting system as the prime contractor for the host broadcaster. Panasonic also supplied equipment such as video cameras and recording format, and was responsible for the maintenance of equipment. In addition, Panasonic provided the emergency broadcast system for smooth event operation and provided wide-ranging support for the Games.

ASTROVISION Large-Screen Display System

Panasonic provided 18 large-screen displays across 13 Olympic venues including the main stadium. The large-screen displays served an important role such as screening the introductory video for the Opening Ceremony viewed by people across the world, and energised the Games.

RAMSA Professional Audio System

At the Nagano 1998 Olympic Winter Games, the RAMSA sound system served nearly all of the venues for the 7 sports, 68 events. RAMSA’s sound field control technology and all-weather speakers that were developed specifically for the Nagano Winter Games fully exerted their potential even amid extreme environments.
