As an Official Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Audio and Visual Equipment category, Panasonic has a proud association with arguably the world’s greatest spectacle. Today we flash back to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. This was the second Olympic Games staged in Athens, following the first modern Olympic Games held there 108 years earlier in 1896. Athens 2004 was broadcast in 220 countries, delivering the breathtaking moments of the Olympic Games to a global audience.

Broadcasting Equipment

At the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, Panasonic supplied some 400 digital VTRs and more than 200 system cameras (digital cameras/video cameras) for broadcasting, and 2,000 monitors including plasma TVs. Panasonic supplied and maintained this equipment that played an active part at the IBC (International Broadcast Centre) and Olympic venues.

ASTROVISION Large-Screen Display System

Panasonic supplied 14 ASTROVISION screens to the Athens 2004 Olympic venues, including two screens in the main stadium. At the lighting of the Olympic flame at the Opening Ceremony, the ASTROVISION played a part in the production, such as tilting with the movement of the Olympic cauldron.

Panasonic installed array speakers capable of delivering high-quality sound throughout the large Athens 2004 Olympic venues, from areas close by to distant spectator seats. The speakers helped build the enlivened atmosphere at the venues, where players and spectators became one.
