Mobile devices can save QSRs big money and improve productivity

It’s estimated that a 50-restaurant QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) chain will spend an average of $250,000 on managers making unnecessary schedule edits a year due to poor planning and non-interactive scheduling tools.

In a recent webcast presentation moderated by QSR magazine, Workforce Insight (a workforce management strategy and implementation consultancy) also estimated that automated scheduling solutions via mobile devices are saving QSRs 4-6 hours a week.

The use of tablets allows QSR managers to come out of the back office and onto the restaurant floor, increasing ROI and productivity. They bring the paper process to the cloud, essentially, putting five clipboards into one mobile device, allowing managers to spend more time where it matters.

In seeking a tablet solution, operators should look to avoid a consumer-grade tablet that won’t survive the day-to-day punishment of a QSR. Instead, enterprise-grade purpose built mobility solutions have proven to withstand falls and spills thanks to their durable and rugged design.

The portable nature of tablets can also give managers the ability to access critical insight into store activities and operations from any location. With the growing number of web-based remote store management systems emerging in the market, store managers can view and analyze transactional data complete with corresponding surveillance video right on their tablets. In addition to preventing shrinkage, video analytics on the tablet can provide invaluable data that can be used to streamline procedures, enhance marketing efforts and inform merchandising strategy.

While a focus on customer experience is important for QSRs, ensuring internal efficiency and productivity is just as important for operators to keep in mind to increase ROI. Mobility solutions will be a big part of the overall technology future for QSRs to ensure they are as quick as their names suggest.
