KWN Global Finals – Day Two
July 27th, 2010

The day before the awards ceremony the KWN finalists take a tour of the Panasonic Centre

Nerves were placed on hold as the KWN Team took the opportunity to explore and learn about current and future technology on show at the Panasonic Centre. Commencing with Panasonic’s Eco House the students experienced what ecological and sustainable lifestyle could be possible with virtually zero CO2 emissions throughout an entire house. Saving, Creating and Storing Energy, Panasonic has proposed a lifestyle which enhances energy saving performance of home appliances and utilizing building materials with high insulation performance. Remaining energy is then supplied by creating and storing energy with a combination of fuel cells, solar power generator and accumulator batteries. Natural elements such as air, light, water and heat, are then taken in to realize a comfortable lifestyle.

Following from the eco ideas House, the group experienced the wonder and amazement of 3D technology as we looked back on the 2010 Beijing and Vancouver Olympics and look forward to what we can expect for London 2012. Eyes were wide open as Panasonic presented the Life Wall an intuitive, intelligent and interactive TV encompassing the entire wall. We were shown future technology that enables people to connect with other people and how lifestyles can connect with technology.

Our morning adventure concluded with a tour of RiSuPia Panasonic’s interactive environment showcasing the beauty of arithmetic’s and mathematics in nature. RiSuPia is a hands-on museum that enabled the students to experience the fascination of science and mathematics and learn their principles and rules in a truly interactive and fun way.

Not long now until the Award Ceremony starts. Fingers Crossed.

The Kid Witness News global awards have kicked off in Japan with students presenting their entries on Day One

The finalists of the Kid Witness News Global competition, where students were tasked with creating a five minute film around a chosen topic, have arrived in Tokyo. The students will embark on a ‘cultural experience tour’ leading up to the awards on the 27th July, when the winning entry will be announced. We’ll be documenting the whole trip right here on the blog with daily video diaries and photos from all the events.

Year seven students Rick Goon Chew and Jacob Thompson, from Mundingburra State School, are representing Australia with their entry the ‘Global Warming Rap’ - a five-minute video montage that shows three penguins delivering an important message on our eco footprint and the survival of earth through rap and animation. Their achievement is made all the more impressive by the fact that they are only the second Australian entry ever to be selected as a global finalist.
